Social Media

Social Media

Social Media is an important tool for any online business or blog. Twitter, Facebook and several other platforms can drive a ton of traffic to your website while also introducing a lot of new people to your brand. Unfortunately, too many people misuse social media, and it hurts them more than it helps.
Let me tell you how to properly use social media.
It’s not rocket science. It’s a party.
You have to think of social media like it’s one big giant party.
Imagine going to a party. At this party, there are a ton of different people having all different types of conversations. Now – imagine going up to a group of people who are having a conversation about something and interrupting with,”Hi everyone! My name is Pat Flynn! Here are some cool products you can buy from me. Check ‘em out!”
That’s not going to go over very well.
One, that’s just plain rude.
Two, that’s not a good first impression (and you never get a second chance to make a good first impression).
And three, you’re not going to impress anyone and you’ll never sell anything that way.
No one knows who you are, and no one will care who you are if you keep acting that way.
If you want to successful get people to pay attention to you, you have to pay attention to what other people are talking about first.
Join and add value to the conversations that are happening – don’t interrupt them.
Be interested in what other people are talking about first, and they may be interested in what you have going on too.
Make friends, build relationships and help others first, and people will be interested in you and eventually find what you have to offer, because they’ll be genuinely interested in you!
That’s how to use social media – as a way to strengthen and build the relationship you have with your target audience and your existing readers and subscribers too.
As my good friend Chris Ducker says: “We live in an era today where we have to forget about B to B (business to business) and B to C (business to customers. In today’s economy, it’s all about P to P – the person to person relationship.”
People like to do business with real people, and social media platforms are the perfect way to show who you really are, and that there’s a real person behind your brand.
Personally, I also love to use social media, strategically, as a way to tap into the minds of my audience and understand exactly what they think, so I don’t have to guess. As a byproduct of doing this, my audience feels more involved and invested into the brand.
Take, for example, this post I published on Facebook asking my audience for their opinion about a logo I was designing for one of my niche sites:
There are over 1,000 comments on this post, and it was shown to over 50,000 people. At the time, I only had 20,000 fans on my Facebook page. It went viral when other people commented and shared it too. In addition, people were anxious when I came out with the new design what logo I ended up choosing.
Below is a list of posts that I’ve published about social media. I hope you enjoy, and please check out my Facebook Page and say hi to me on Twitter when you have a chance.
Cheers!
